Who doesn’t like to get mail?

At one time using an interactive journal was popular - it is still a great idea to write back and forth with your students, but there are many other ways to write notes to communicate. Post-it notes are a great tool. You can use them for a quick pick me up or to communicate a key concept.

Notes provide a different type of communication flexibility. You don’t need to talk to give feedback. You can write them at a different time than when you hand them out. Students can refer back to them. Compliments can provide an unexpected lift to a student’s day. And reading and writing get a little popularity boost that can spill over to other areas of the classroom ;)
